THE PRIME TRANSITION

Preparing Your Child
for Daily Life at Prime

Thoughtful preparation supports confidence, independence, and a calm transition into the daily rhythms of the atelier. The guidance below has been prepared to help your family prepare your child for life within the Academy.

Clothing & Daily Dress

Children should arrive comfortably dressed in practical clothing appropriate for purposeful movement, outdoor experiences, creative work, and independent care routines within the atelier.

  • Complete labeled change of clothing
  • Weather-appropriate outerwear
  • Comfortable child-manageable shoes
  • Velcro closures whenever possible for younger children
Because portions of the Montessori work cycle may involve hands-on experiences, we encourage families to avoid sending clothing that cannot tolerate occasional wear or staining.

Supporting Independence

Our Montessori ateliers are intentionally designed to support functional independence, responsibility, coordination, and self-care through the child’s daily experiences.

  • Functional independence
  • Responsibility and self-care
  • Control of movement
  • Fine motor coordination
  • Preparation for writing
  • Confidence and self-assurance
Small daily opportunities for independence help children build concentration, order, and confidence within the curated atelier.

Daily Personal Belongings

  • Labeled water bottle or no-spill cup
  • Complete change of clothing
  • Additional clothing for toilet-learning children
  • Weather-appropriate jacket or sweater
  • Indoor shoes or house slippers
  • Hairbrush or comb for grooming
  • Rest items if requested by the Academy
The Academy prepares all atelier learning materials through the Annual Atelier Materials Investment. Families are not expected to provide classroom instructional supplies.

Rest & Bedding Guidance

If rest items are requested for your child’s program placement, please ensure all items are child-sized, clearly labeled, and easy for your child to manage independently.

  • Standard child-sized crib sheets
  • Small blanket
  • Approved comfort item if needed
Pillows are not permitted for child safety purposes.

Toilet Learning & Care Items

  • Pull-ups or training underwear
  • Wipes
  • Additional changes of clothing
  • Applicable creams or care items
  • Toilet-training seat if requested
Families may either leave these items at the Academy for convenience or send them daily with their child.

Lunch & Personal Carry Items

Children are encouraged to arrive with independently manageable lunch bags or lunch boxes whenever possible.

  • Child-sized lunch bag or lunch box
  • Independently manageable personal belongings
  • Avoid large school bags whenever possible
Montessori children work within fully prepared and curated ateliers where learning materials are already maintained by the Academy.

Thank you for partnering with Prime Montessori Academy in preparing your child thoughtfully for daily life within the Academy. Together, through consistency, preparation, and intentional care, we support each child’s growing independence, confidence, and joyful participation within the life of the atelier.
